The mermaid Museum "siren" Experience

los angeles lifestyle blogs
When I found out there was going to be a Mermaid Museum in Los Angeles, I couldn't have been more excited!!

There's just something about these mystical creatures that's just absolutely amazing. I initially fell in love with Disney's The Little Mermaid version. Ariel was GREAT and who didn't want to be "Apart of Her World?".

But as I grew older there was something amazing about the OTHER Mermaid Tales.

Mermaid's Were My Spirit Animal, I mean come on they're...

1. Mysteriously Beautiful and Can Sing
2. Powerful and Fast
3. They Don't let Everyone in on Their Secrets
4. They Have a Don't Mess With Me Attitude

Those are #goals, who doesn't want to be all of those things?! LOL.

Needless to say I'm very excited about Freeform's Newest show addition called Siren. These are definitely not your Disney Mermaids AND I'm okay with that, it's fun to tell a different story every now and then.

Here's what you should know about these mystical creatures called Sirens (All info found on Fandom).

"The main difference between mermaids and Sirens is that the latter are predators and killers. Seducing men with their voices and bodies. Mermaids may not necessarily kill men, like Sirens do."

And one of my favorite abilities of Siren's is their song.

"Sirens are able to emit a captivating singing voice that lures anyone who hears it. Sirens usually sing their Siren songs to seduce and kill men."

Now do you understand why I'm so captivated? I mean that's the ultimate super power.

Now  back to the museum, they did a great job showing us the city of Bristol Cove "The Mermaid Capitol of the World" in their entrance and then it opened up into a room that had different instagram worthy photo ops. One of my favorite parts of the room that was hard to capture on film was their Siren they had swimming in a tank for all to see. They even broke down the Siren's Anatomy and Abilities that I'll include in the pics below.

Overall this Mermaid Museum did a great job drawing in a new mermaid crowd and introducing us to a Siren's World. My hope is that they make this an actual museum and go even more into the history of mermaids and Siren's. That would be incredibly fun!

Until then, I'm definitely tuning in to watch Siren on Freeform this Thursday, March 29th.

Don't forget to check out all the fun pics and comment below if you'll be watching too!

7 Tips for an Awesome Road Trip!

Saved Road Trips for last, because I’m about to leave for one myself AND I’m super excited! What I realized when planning is that there is soo much that goes into a road trip and I decided to share some of what I learned with you!

  1. Pick a Route - This was one of the toughest things to figure out for me,SOOOO I decided to plan around places I knew I wanted to visit. I knew I had to go to Austin, TX ; New Orleans, LA and Nashville, TN. From there a route was formed…Austin was a bit far coming from Los Angeles so I added Phoenix ,AZ to one of our stops and also some random city on the way to Austin. That way we were only driving in daylight hours and no more then about 8 hours a day.
  2. How Long Are You Going to Stay in One Place? - This was an important factor for me to consider, because I wanted to pack soo much into my journey. So I decided I would be fine with spending one night and one full day in each place I visit. This is going to allow me to have two awesome dinners, explore the nightlife, and get some awesome instagram pics throughout the day!
  3. Have an Idea of Where You Want to Go in Each City - With such a limited amount of time in each place, it’s important to know where you want to go in each city. Figure out what’s important to you and go from there. I really want to make sure I get some GREAT instagram pics to share with you all and also eat some mouth watering Southern Food. So when looking up different things to do, I’ve geared my searched towards that. The Southern Belle in me is going to come out. If I start saying ya’ll again you’ll know why! :D
  4. Check the Weather - Since you’ll be going across country, it’s a good idea to check the weather of each city you’ll be visiting and pack accordingly. But also remember weather can change! So make sure to pack layers and be prepared for different extremes along the way.
  5. Make a Playlist - You’re going to be in the car ALOT so make sure you have a great playlist for those times you’re going through places that may not have music you like or you’re not getting any service while trying to  stream your music. I’m super excited to make my “mix tape” lol. But, don’t just think about music, add an audio book to your list or pre-download some good podcasts to listen to as well!
  6. Pack Snacks - Make sure to have some healthy snacks and lots of water with you. Yes, you’ll be stopping at gas stations but you don’t want to  continue to pay those premium prices as you drive across country. So put a flat of water in the car and have some sweet, salty and savory snack options!
  7. Have Fun! - This is supposed to be a great bonding experience, so bond with whoever you’re with take LOTS of pic and make TONS of memories.

Have you road tripped?? Want to add anything to the list?? Feel free to comment below.. Xoxo, @kellithinks

5 Reasons Why Solo Traveling is one of the Best Ways to Travel

Still trying to figure out if you should travel solo or not? Read my 5 reasons below, maybe it’ll help you figure it out!

  1. Planning is Easier - One of the reasons I love to solo travel is because oftentimes planning a trip with someone else can get difficult. When traveling solo, you don’t have to worry about that, the hardest thing will  be choosing where not to go!
  2. Meet New People - Whenever I’ve gone somewhere solo, I always meet new people. In fact I’m more open to it because I would like to have someone to socialize with and it makes the adventure that much more fun! When traveling in a group, sometimes you can be closed off to others around you missing out on the opportunity to meet a like minded traveler from another place. You can learn a lot about people from around the world just by opening up.
  3. You Can Immerse Yourself - I find that it’s easier to immerse yourself fully in the country you’re visiting. I say this because I find that I chat with the locals more about what to do or how to get around allowing for more of an authentic experience.
  4. You Can Make New Plans - Say you aren’t enjoying whatever you had planned for the day, no problem, you can do something else because your only worry is making YOU happy.
  5. You Feel a Sense of Freedom - There’s something liberating in knowing that you can plan a trip successfully by yourself and figure it all out along the way. Your experience may not be perfect, but it’s your experience and you’ll be stronger for taking it.

We’re just one little piece of the puzzle in this great big world and it’s so nice to go out and be able to experience everything this world has to offer. Traveling solo isn’t for everyone, but I do encourage everyone to do it at least once in their life, you won’t regret it.

The millennial Cruise ship experience

When you think of a cruise, what do you imagine?

Is it 70+ year old men and women out on the rooftop deck playing shuffleboard?

That’s how it used to be, but all of that has changed (Thank Goodness!) many cruise lines are making sure they market to the millennial crowd. Which is smart considering many of us have caught the dreadful travel bug.

But why cruise?

  1. You only have to unpack once! - This is a game changer especially for me. One of the best/worst things about traveling is packing and unpacking if you’re going to multiple cities. If you travel to these places by cruise ship your “hotel” is moving with you, so no need to deal with rearranging and packing your suitcase until the end.
  2. Meals Are Included - Food is included in the price of your trip. You’ll have to double check which ones but, one of the best things is not having to worry about extra food costs, and theses ships have accredited chefs on board to make meals that will surely satisfy your palate.
  3. Fun Activities - While traveling between different ports, you can participate in many fun activities aboard the ship. Whether it’s lounging by the pool, participating in activities thought of by your Cruise Director, taking in a show, or dancing the night away…there’s something for everyone that you don’t necessarily have to pay extra to do. Not to mention when you get to your port of destination, there are fun offshore excursions (oftentimes purchased at an additional cost) that are bound to leave you with some great memories.

And which one?

One millennial marketed cruise ship that’s really becoming a game changer is called U by Uniworld. Offering trips in France, Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands to name a few they are really creating a different “cruise ship” experience. Here is why I’ll be using them as soon as I can.

  1. They’re really more like a floating boutique hotel! - Because they sail on a river, they’re smaller. This offers a unique personalized travel experience where you can really get to know your fellow travelers in a setting that's not too bad on the eyes either.
  2. They accommodate solo travelers - One of the first things I looked at, especially since I do most of my trips solo. You can get a single room or be paired in a room with another traveler in your same shoes.
  3. They offer included excursions - You’re already paying to be aboard their river cruise boat, so they want to make sure you have the best experience possible without having to pay for a lot of "additional things".
  4. Activities are Millennial Geared - Silent Discos, Wine and Paint Nights, Mixology Classes, Morning Rooftop Yoga…Does it get any better then that?

Make sure to check them out here, and hopefully I’ll see you sailing in the near future. Xoxo, @kellithinks
